Buying Visa Gift Cards at Walmart Self-Check Out

Buying Visa Gift Cards at Walmart Self-Check Out

Are you someone who buys Visa Gift Cards?  If so, the Self-Check Out registers at Walmart allow the purchase of Visa Gift cards without employee assistance.  The registers seem to cap the total purchase amount (including activation fees) at $1000.

Bring your gift cards to the self-check out line and once you reach the register, scan the barcode on the back of the gift card packaging.  Once you scan the gift card, the process can take a moment to get started.  It may feel like nothing is happening for a moment. The first thing that will happen is that the activation fee will show up on the main screen.

You will then be prompted to enter the amount of money you want to load on the gift card.  I am loading $495, you’ll see why in a minute.

The touchscreen screen then prompts you to turn your attention to the pin pad.  The purpose is to confirm the gift card amount.

Press “Yes” to confirm the amount.

Here’s what it will look like after you have confirmed your amount. Notice that the total amount, with the activation fee, is right under $500. I’m loading $495 on each card, because I want to buy two cards and keep the total under $1000.

To buy the second card, I repeat the steps above.  And when everything is done, I’m looking at a total of $999.88. This sub-$1000 purchase will sale through without any employee assistance.

If you buy Visa Gift cards, self-check out at Walmart is another option.
